Sophia Setareh Kiapos is a first-generation Iranian-Greek American filmmaker, writer, and producer based between Athens, Greece, and Los Angeles, California. Her work explores transformation, girlhood, exile, cultural inheritance, and the private worlds of women.

Before becoming a filmmaker, Sophia trained in classical ballet for more than a decade. She later studied classical theatre and dramaturgy at LAMDA, Chekhov at the Stella Adler Studio in New York, and improvisation at UCB and The Groundlings.

Sophia made her feature directorial debut with ROYALLY SCREWED, an adaptation of Emma Chase’s New York Times bestselling novel, starring Academy Award nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo. She has also directed more than forty English-language dubbing and localization projects for Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, including MAESTRO IN BLUE and BENEFITS WITH FRIENDS, earning two Hermes Award nominations for dubbing direction.

Her Farsi-language feature screenplay AREZOU was selected for the 2025 Owl Screenwriting Lab in Athens and shortlisted for the 2026 WScripted Cannes Screenplay List in partnership with MUBI. In July 2026, the screenplay was featured on The Black List, having received an overall score of 8, placing it among the top 5% of projects evaluated on the platform.

Sophia also facilitates creative retreats and mentors emerging artists through private coaching and workshops.
